This project was a fan-inspired recreation of the iconic Thousand Sunny ship from One Piece, crafted with a balance of stylization and realism. Collaborating with a small team, I took on the modeling and texture detailing of the ship’s key structural elements—ensuring each wooden plank, cannon port, and sail curved naturally with believable weight. The lion figurehead, a standout feature, was sculpted for personality and polished with painted fiber texture to evoke a handcrafted toy aesthetic. The project served as both a tribute to the anime and a technical exercise in managing a high-poly, UV-unwrapped asset across multiple texture passes.
Process Notes:
Began with low-poly base mesh modeling in Maya, blocking out the proportions and silhouette
Sculpted high-frequency wood grain and emblematic details in ZBrush for realism
Baked and textured in Substance Painter with stylized materials (wood, metal, canvas) while preserving anime aesthetics
Added segmented render passes (Base, Detail, Texture) to demonstrate the full pipeline breakdown
Composited final render with sky reflections and ocean simulation to enhance presentation
