The Switch – Hot & Cold Toggle Animation
Personal Project – Skill Development
2020
A short 3D animation crafted to demonstrate a temperature toggle switch shifting between extreme hot and cold states. The project uses strong color contrasts and minimalistic 3D modeling to create an intuitive, visually engaging experience. It focuses on storytelling through simple, clean design without relying on complex environments or characters.
Modeled and animated the switch inside Cinema 4D.
Built a clean environment to ensure the switch was the central focus.
Applied realistic movement and smooth easing for the toggle animation.
Used Octane Renderer for high-quality lighting and material realism.
Highlighted hot and cold states using vivid color shifts (red/orange for hot, blue/cyan for cold) and subtle emissive glow effects.
Finalized the piece in After Effects, adding post-production enhancements like color correction, soft glow effects, and slight mood grading to amplify the emotions of temperature extremes.
Produced a polished, minimalistic 3D animation that effectively conveys contrasting environments (heat vs. cold) with clean motion design. The project showcases strengths in 3D modeling, animation timing, material creation, lighting control, and compositing, making it an ideal addition to a portfolio focused on product visualization, UI animation, or motion graphics.
